This Forensic and Criminal Investigation pathway brings together knowledge and understanding with practical and technical skills. This is achieved through you performing forensic science investigations and workshops in our state-of-the-art laboratories and at universities in the UK and abroad. You will be supported throughout your time with us to realise your potential with individual and expert support. You will see how your subjects link to your career plans through visits to the National Crime Museum, our capital experience visit to London to look at court processes and exhibitions to understand the human body and even a study experience to put your knowledge into practice during a visit to a university and facilities in Romania.
Extended Diploma in forensic science and criminal investigation
What Will I Study?
Forensic science is a critical element of the criminal justice system. Forensic scientists examine and analyse evidence from crime scenes and elsewhere to develop objective findings that can assist in the investigation and prosecution of perpetrators of crime or absolve an innocent person from suspicion. The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Forensic and Criminal Investigation course is equivalent to three A-Levels and includes units on core fundamental scientific principles which underpin forensic science and scientific-practical skills, this will cover biology, chemistry and physics.
Specialist units will ensure students gain an insight into the whole forensic process from a crime scene to court and will include Forensic investigation procedures, an introduction to criminology, forensic and criminal psychology and criminal investigation looking at the legal aspect of forensic science.
What Can I Do With My forensic science qualification?
Students can go on to do a range of higher education courses including Forensic Science, Criminology, Psychology, Policing and Criminal Investigation. In addition, the requirements of the qualification will mean learners develop the transferable and higher-order skills that are highly regarded by higher education and employers.
