The International business pathway will help you gain the qualifications to progress on to university to study degrees in finance and business. The skills you develop are highly sought after by employers and there is a buoyant current and future labour market demand for international business graduates. You will have the opportunity to gain additional experiences essential to your career plan and undertake visits and work placements with local employers, visit universities and participate in enterprise and entrepreneurship activities.

The International Business pathway can open up a number of career opportunities in a variety of sectors, in countries around the world. As an international business student you will look at how globalisation has brought about an increasing ‘connectedness’ of businesses, markets, people and information across countries.

You will also be able to gain and use a language qualification abroad as part of the pathway.

The importance of international business is greater than ever, whether it be a company thinking about selling abroad, or organisations that are internationalising or investigating cross-border mergers and acquisitions.

Entry Criteria

We recommend that you have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above. These must include a grade 4 in English Language and a grade 5 in Maths due to the mathematical skills required within the business qualifications.

What will I study?

A Level Business will ensure you are effectively prepared for employment in any organisation and provide you with an understanding of how businesses operate. You will develop your understanding of how and why business decisions are made, how businesses respond strategically to the changes they face and current issues that impact on business, such as the digital economy. The course also provides a focus on the current global issues that impact on businesses.

What can I do with my Business Studies qualification?

Business leads to a wide variety of university courses, especially in areas such as economics, management, retailing, enterprise, finance, accountancy and administration. You will develop a range of transferable skills that will support your progression into either higher education or a higher level apprenticeship.

What will I study?

The Diploma in Financial Studies has been designed to allow you to appreciate the need for financial planning throughout your life. You will be introduced to the interaction between money, personal finance and the financial services industry, gaining an appreciation of the different financial service products. You will also look at the personal relationship people have with risk and reward, as well as the need for preparing for different circumstances. You will explore the financial services system and look at how financial service providers work and compete with one another.

What can I do with my Finance qualification?

Alongside the other pathway qualifications, you will be prepared for the challenges of higher education, working within a business or starting up a business yourself through the opportunities offered within the pathway.

What will I study?

This qualification allows you to understand how to start up a business or social enterprise. It covers the essential aspects of starting and running a business. Optional units provide choice for specialising in areas that will support the understanding of enterprise. You will start up and run a fully-functioning legal business to develop your entrepreneurial skills. You will be able to interact with entrepreneurs and business people throughout the course, enabling you to learn from experienced professionals.

What can I do with my Enterprise and Entrepreneurship qualification?

Through studying this qualification, you can move directly into employment or move into higher education to pursue a career in business areas including finance, management and marketing.

What will I study?

Studying international business allows you to see how globalisation has brought about an increasing ‘connectedness’ of businesses, markets, people and information across countries. The ability to speak a second or third language can give you a distinct advantage within your career aspirations. At Career 6, you will be able to take an additional language qualification in either Mandarin or Spanish.

What can I do with my Language qualification?

Having the additional language qualification will improve your employability skills and make you more attractive to potential employers. You will also be given the opportunity to apply these language skills through the trips and visits on offer.
